Land-based Youth and Community Gatherings

At Cattail Rising, we collaborate with Tribes, schools, community organizations, and local governments to co-create programs and workshops that reflect and respond to the specific needs of Native youth, families, and communities. Our land-based gatherings, programs, overnight camps, and academies take place in diverse settings—reservation-based, rural, and urban—designed to strengthen the connection between youth and the land.

We believe in a community-driven approach that integrates traditional learning, values, and practices to foster cultural identity, community, and a deep connection to the land. Our work centers around relationships and the transmission of intergenerational Indigenous knowledge through mentorship and cultural protocol. By uplifting Tribal sovereignty and focusing on Native youth, we strive to unite and strengthen Tribal communities across colonial borders.

Our goal is to create learning spaces that help Native youth build and strengthen their Tribal identity through rematriation of ancestral lands and the recognition of our interconnectedness and interdependence as Indigenous Peoples. Topics we focus on include:

  • Building Relationships
  • Leadership Development
  • Traditional and Contemporary Arts
  • Gathering, Processing, Preserving, and Preparing Traditional Foods and Plant Medicines
  • Traditional Games
  • Land-Based Restoration and Recreation
  • And More!
