Place-based Curriculum Development

The Cattail Rising Team has been working in partnership with Tribes, school districts, and community leaders since 2019 to develop and implement co-created, place-based programs, lessons, and curriculum within public and tribal schools. Our approach centers relationships, transparency, and community building, upholding the Tribal protocols of each Nation we serve.

The curriculum we develop is aligned with The John McCoy (lulilaš) Since Time Immemorial Curriculum: Tribal Sovereignty in Washington State, and is designed to engage youth through interdisciplinary, hands-on learning that centers the teachings, values, and history of each Tribe; sharing the stories of our people through the lens of culture, survival, and interdependence.

We work with classroom teachers to integrate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.), and Common Core Standards in place-based lessons, and explore local land-based learning opportunities outside the classroom.

We look forward to sharing our curriculum model and approach as we transform the landscape of education to reflect and honor the history of Tribal Peoples and our lands with you.
